The world is currently engulfed in an unprecedented pandemic that is threatening the lives of millions of people worldwide. Every western country has seen lockdowns initiated by the local, state and/or federal governments. Sporting leagues and events like the NBA, Summer Olympics, UEFA Euro 2020, and many others have been cancelled or delayed without a timetable to return. Wimbledon, which has not been cancelled wince World War II, was officially cancelled a few days ago.  More seriously, millions of people around the world have faced or will face job loss as a result of COVID-19. According to the US Labor Department, ten million Americans have already lost their jobs as a result of the business shutdowns caused by COVID-19.

Covid 19 has presented government with a plethora of different challenges, a principal one being how to track and determine real cases of this virus.

Yesterday news broke of a 17 year old boy in LA County who had died. The media jumped on the case as a death attributed to Covid 19 but that information has now been placed on hold seeing that the teen suffered from a number of complications prior to being infected. The US mortality rate for those infected is hovering around 1.4-1.5% (or 0.5-0.6%) more than the yearly viral influenza.

For the past week or so, the mainstream media, leftist celebrities and several Democrat politicians have been parroting a narrative that President Trump and others who refer to COVID-19 as “Wuhan” or “Chinese” virus, are racists.

Their contention is that calling the virus these things fuels racism. They claim that it suggests that Asians, or Asian-Americans, are “others” and are to be blamed for this pandemic. This in turn puts them at risk for victimization and race-incited attacks.

It’s interesting what the left deems as inflammatory rhetoric.

Canada’s most populated province has been in the midst of a Teachers Union dispute since November

Chances are, you haven’t heard about the Ontario teacher’s strike. Why would you have? Unless you live in the province of Ontario or actively search for Canadian provincial news, public sector strikes within a Canadian province doesn’t receive national or international coverage. However in this particular case, it should be reported on internationally. The ongoing union dispute highlights the power of large public unions and their bully-like mentality. This strike highlights how most governments can frivolously spend taxpayer dollars to appease public unions. It should provide thought and reflection about where all of your taxpayer dollars are going and which individuals are benefiting.

The topic of the week, and no doubt, the topic anytime we experience such heinous tragedies like the one that took place at a Parkland HS in Florida, is the issue of guns. No doubt, any loss of life is a tragedy, but losing 17 at once in a place where we Americans send our young ones is completely unacceptable.

Since that incident, new agencies have rolled out mountains of articles with lofty and emotional rhetoric but very little facts concerning the truth behind gun control’s success or lack there of. In fact much of the debate is centered around emotional responses as opposed to finding practical things that will truly work.

Introduction

Here it is, and I will do my best to keep it short.

I don’t excuse bad policing or racist policing for that matter. As an officer, getting rid of those in our ranks who operate in such a manner is beneficial to the society and to good police officers alike. I also know from experience how important it is to put aside our bias or prejudice in favor of a clean slate. It’s taught in academies nationwide and its reinforced daily on each and every call for service. It’s something civilians also must be mindful in examining police actions.
